Ocotillo: funny name, good place to live

Ocotillo: where does the name come from anyway?
To most, Ocotillo may just be the southwestern part of Chandler, AZ, but the lower case ocotillo has a different meaning.  According to my good friend wikipedia:
the ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens- also called coachwhip, Jacob's staff, and the vine cactus) is a curious, and unique desert plant of the southwestern US and northern Mexico.  For much of the year, the plant appears to be an arrangement of large, spiny dead sticks, although closer examination reveals the stems are partly green.  With rainfall the plant quickly becomes lush with small ovate leaves, which may remain for weeks or even months.

I hope this blog, Writing a New Ending, will be a place for people to discuss/find all things Ocotillo.
